Topic
Trauma and Resilience in Children and Adolescents
Clinical work with children and adolescents who’ve experienced trauma can be as frustrating as it is rewarding. The chances of a successful intervention can be greatly increased with knowledge of how children acquire key resiliencies. This workshop will look at resilience as it relates to the treatment challenges of poor motivation, depression, suicidal ideation, social isolation, resistance and other common clinical presentations of young people. Using lecture and interactive activities, participants will learn a framework for:
- Understanding the trauma response in children and adolescents
- Assessing resilience assets in the context of the trauma response
- Developing treatment goals for enhancing resilience strengths
- Applying techniques for resilience building in the clinical setting
