MENTOR !
Become a mentor to an at-risk youth in our community.
Just one hour a week for one year, and you will change one life (two if you count your own) for the better.
In New Hampshire, Child and Family Services is working in partnership with Goodwill in presenting Goodwill GoodGuides, a national mentoring program for youth between the ages of 13 and 17 who are at risk for making harmful choices such as dropping out of school, joining a gang or are engaging in delinquent or detrimental activity.
Right now, we need a few good men and women to work with youth at the Sununu Youth Services Center.
As a mentor, you will empower a youth with the confidence and courage to make positive choices in his/her life. Here are some of the things you will do:
Help your assigned mentee to --
- identify career goals
- write his/her resume
- finish his/her school studies
- connect with resources in the community once exit the system
- build self-confidence and self-esteem
- make healthy personal choices
- develop a simple plan for saving and budgeting money
- become empowered and prepare for independence
Be there as --
- someone your mentee can trust and talk to
- a role model
- a guide and a connection in the community
- someone who believes in him/her
WHY YOU? Because you CAN.
The most important criteria for being a mentor is that you care and can be someone your mentee can count on!
Both peer and adult mentors are needed. Peer mentors must be at least 16 years of age, and adult mentors must be 18 years of age or older. Because consistency is critical for success, a one-year minimum commitment is required from adult mentors.
